Background of the company
The gap that the company is addressing
Rwanda’s primary healthcare facilities face fragmented data systems, limited specialist access, and overworked staff. These constraints hinder health equity and public health surveillance, especially in rural settings.
The reach and/or impact of the healthtech solution
The platform reached 480,725 patients, engaged 621 healthcare providers, and integrated into 140 facilities (including 138 public). eFiche secured $400,000 in additional funding and created 10 new jobs.
The healthtech solution and how it was implemented
eFiche developed an interoperable electronic health record system that integrates telemedicine, AI diagnostics, and data analytics to support healthcare providers and patients. The solution was implemented through collaborations with the Ministry of Health, Health Information Exchange (HIE), and District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2). Stakeholders included healthcare providers, public sector partners, and private clinics.
Lessons learned from the experience
Despite successful integration, the lack of standardized data registries and pending MoUs created operational uncertainties. eFiche emphasized the need for harmonized data governance frameworks, secure hosting protocols, and transparent regulatory guidance to accelerate digital adoption.
