Lifesten Health (Lifesten) is a scale-up start-up in Rwanda that focuses on developing incentive-based wellness programs which create experiences that empower users to achieve their health goals in a fun, exciting and rewarding manner. Lifesten integrates physical health with nutrition and mental wellness by working with certified healthcare providers and fitness and wellness centres to develop personalized health plans and challenges to engage consumers and alleviate their risk of getting lifestyle diseases.

Lifesten’s flagship projects include the Lifesten Health®, a digital health platform that delivers web and mobile solutions to help people manage their nutrition, mindfulness, health, and well-being. Lifesten will be funded with USD 250,000 as part of the HealthTech Hub Africa fund to implement the Lifesten Health digital platform that promotes cardiovascular health and virtual health care.

MedTech Africa presents Forcardio, an all-in-one platform for cardiovascular monitoring that enables cardiovascular diseases to be detected through AI and traditional community screening. They ensure a seamless patient journey by linking the cardiovascular information captured and shared from any heart monitoring device to the patient’s medical records at Hospital and EMR levels.

Forcardio is a fun & engaging digital solution to help students and pupils in primary and secondary schools between the ages of 5-17 years old (and their educators) learn about healthy habits, and cardiovascular health, screen students for Body Mass Index, and engage in fun workout/physical activities to improve heart health.

The solution will have a long-term positive impact on children’s health in Nigeria and keep parents informed with regular updates on their child’s progress. It will also integrate a reward system for active students using the Forcardio Kid App, where points gained through daily challenges and active usage gives students free access to educational content like Quizzes, tests, and Past question papers on online education platforms like Edukoya and Ulesson.

WeCare Digital Health Services is a telehealth company that provides health consultations throughout Ethiopia via mobile application and a dedicated call centre. It also provides health education to many public through its website and social media outlets, with a combined audience of 100K + on all platforms.

The contents mainly focus on preventive healthcare.

WeCare project aims to build upon Kazi Bantu’s kazikidz initiative to bring a contextually and culturally appropriate solution to the Ethiopian school system to address and prevent cardiovascular disease-related issues early in childhood.

YeneHealth FemTech (YeneHealth) is an early-stage Ethiopia start-up focused on adolescent girls and women’s sexual and reproductive health (SRH).

Its goal is to make SRH and family planning information and products accessible and available to users. YeneHealth provides digital solutions that allow women to access a library of health information, shop confidentially and confidently through e-pharmacy with discreet delivery, and utilize various features like period tracking, pregnancy monitoring and medicine usage tracking.

YeneHealth mission is to enhance every woman’s confidence and health through education, access and informed decision-making so that her health is her choice. By leveraging technology and data, YeneHealth intends to pioneer a new era of health-tech services and promote a healthy and productive population.

As part of the HealthTech Hub Africa fund, YeneHealth will be funded with USD 50,000 to implement the YeneHealth FemTech project. YeneHealth intends to solidify its foundation and set the path to accelerated growth and impact.

Global Innovation and Creativity (GIC) Space

GIC Space was founded to provide a healthcare innovation space where innovative solutions and products targeting health problems would be conceived, developed, and implemented.

Located in Cameroon, GIC aims to provide space where young inventors can create projects to give solutions targeting health and social problems while getting financial and technical assistance towards the realization of the objectives of their projects and receiving proper guidance and mentoring.

The flagship project for GIC Space is called GICMed. Its main objective is to reduce the burden of breast and cervical cancers in Sub-Saharan Africa using innovative and cost-effective technologies adapted to the African context. These technologies include a digital microscopy system; a smart speculum; an exemplary needle biopsy device; a telemedicine platform, and; a gamified e-training platform.

GIC Space will be funded with USD 30,000 under the HealthTech Hub Africa fund to develop the GICMed project solution to provide access to screening, diagnostic, and treatment services for breast and cervical cancer through an innovative smartphone microscope and robust telemedicine platform. Rather than travelling to be diagnosed and treated at a high cost, women will be remotely screened and diagnosed with real-time pathology confirmation at the point of care.

Docthus HealthTech Limited (Docthus) is a growing start-up that aims to enhance the learning experience for medical practitioners through a content-sharing platform that brings together content from across the continent.

The Docthus platform enables users to upload content on surgery best practices and other medical procedures, allowing doctors and other health professions to access content that will help them to save lives. The platform hosts live surgery sessions, hybrid medical events and training using the latest technologies available among medical practitioners.

The company received funding of USD 20,000 to develop ‘Docthus’, an online content-sharing platform for medical professionals across Africa and the world. The platform enables users to create and monetize medical content and, in so doing, promote best practices and use of the latest technology to tackle various medical cases in Africa and globally.
