The HealthTech Hub Africa (HTHA)–a collaborative initiative founded by the Novartis Foundation and supported by the Global Fund and the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation– is delighted to announce the selected startups and scale-ups for the 2024 Accelerator Program. From more than 200 applications received, 31 ventures have successfully secured a spot in the cohort. As part of the program, they will benefit from nurturing support, as well as a collaborative peer and partner ecosystem. This comprehensive framework is designed to foster innovation, facilitate scalability, and propel the advancement of health technologies across Africa.
Africa bears a disproportionate burden of health challenges, hindering access to quality healthcare. The HTHA aims to address these challenges by actively driving development of health technologies to fast track innovation in public health systems through collaboration with government partners and funders of global health.
The 2024 cohort will be led by implementing partners Jhpiego, a global health expert, and Villgro Africa, an incubator and impact investor supporting emerging healthcare businesses in Africa, to catalyze innovation, and will focus on four thematic areas: cardiovascular health, breast cancer, virtual health and care, and optimization of data-driven decision-making.
As part of the 10-month program, members of the HTHA participate in a collaborative peer and partner ecosystem, and receive resources to enhance innovation and promote scalability. Additional benefits include investment readiness masterclasses, partner matchmaking with the public and private sectors, mentorship, and opportunities to test and validate their solutions in the public health system.
With their leadership, the HTHA will continue to tackle pressing health challenges, work closely with government partners to scale technology in public health systems, and bring path-breaking solutions to communities across Africa.
