Software developer, Yubree Labs (formerly VRapeutic), has launched a fully web-based platform that allows clinicians to remotely supervise the physical rehabilitation sessions of patients with neck and shoulder disorders and motor challenges associated with cerebral palsy. In addition, the company has announced its plans to expand its reach to Sub-Saharan Africa.
The VR and AI-enabled rehabilitation sessions are more engaging for children and young adults. Patients with various needs and from different care settings who could not easily access rehabilitation services because of cost can now benefit. The platform’s AI-enabled reporting layer generates structured session reports and therapy recommendations, making it practical for clinicians.
The team has also developed an AI attention scoring model, currently achieving around 77% accuracy. As the model improves with more data, it is expected to become a key component of how therapy outcomes are measured and optimized.
New products and use cases
In parallel, Yubree Labs has expanded its product offering. The launch of Necknasium, a VR-based module targeting cervical health and posture, marks the company’s entry into musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Over the past year, new peer-reviewed research demonstrated the effectiveness of Yubree Lab’s modules in improving cognitive function in children with Down syndrome. A newer preprint also highlights improvements in body awareness among children with ADHD.
These findings are important not just for validation, but for adoption. In healthcare, evidence plays a critical role in determining whether solutions move beyond pilots into real-world use.
A strategic focus on Sub-Saharan Africa
While Yubree Labs continues to operate in Egypt, Canada, and Vietnam, Sub-Saharan Africa has become a key focus for growth. The company is prioritizing partnerships with universities, children’s hospitals, and outpatient clinics, particularly those that combine academic research with clinical application. Early engagements are often structured as pilot studies or research collaborations, with the goal of transitioning into long-term adoption.
The Challenge of Scaling
Like many health innovators, Yubree Labs’ biggest challenges are not technical, but operational. Building strong business development and partnership capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa and North America remains a priority. At the same time, the company is working to attract more clinical collaborators to generate the evidence and case studies needed to support scale. These challenges reflect a broader reality in health innovation: success depends not just on building technology, but on aligning with systems, stakeholders, and real-world constraints.
Rethinking funding for health innovation
Yubree Labs is currently fundraising, but not relying solely on traditional investor-led models. Instead, the team is actively pursuing research and innovation grants, as well as industry–academia collaborations to support pilot studies and multi-center trials. This approach acknowledges a common gap in the ecosystem, where early-stage clinical validation is essential but often underfunded by traditional investors.
Next phase
Looking ahead, the company is preparing for its next phase of growth. This includes advancing patent filings, launching multi-country studies across Africa and Canada, and bringing its AI attention scoring model closer to full deployment.
Yubree Labs is also exploring opportunities beyond healthcare, including applications in gaming and entertainment, using immersive technology to reach broader audiences and expand its impact.
